February 2010's version of the Central New York Boat Show will offer an interesting educational opportunity for deaf and hearing impaired young people. As mentioned in this clip from Syracuse's News 10 Now, New York Sea Grant and the Boating Industry Association of Upstate New York are teaming up with AURORA of Central New York to offer a boating safety class to hearing impaired people aged 10 to 21. It's the first time such a program has been offered. In past years, students were responsible for bringing their own interpreter. Two of the four required sessions will be held at the Boat Show on February 10th and 12th.
"Obviously the goal is to make sure they're getting a good safety training course so when they're out on the water, they're the best boater they can be and a good, solid, safe boater in the waterways of New York," said NYSG's Dave White, a recreation & tourism expert.
